Dark Chocolate Truffles

There is a magic element to Holiday baking/cooking. I love to make special DIY edible goodies for gifting to friends and family. Last week, I made these dark chocolate truffles that are so easy to make, yet so delicious. They make for a perfect holiday gift or an excellent dessert for the holiday parties. You require a handful of basic ingredients and few minutes of preparation time. Flavor them according to your liking, i used a mix of Kahlua and Amaretto, you can also use vanilla essence, pure almond extract etc. Roll the truffles into your desired coatings such as hazelnuts, pistachios, cocoa powder, crushed candy canes, shredded coconuts etc. I prefer dark chocolate with over 60% cocoa content, you can also use a mix of dark, semi sweet and milk chocolates.

Dark Chocolate Truffles

Ingredients
6 Ounces (approximately 1.5 bars) Dark Chocolate, roughly chopped
1/3 Cup Heavy Cream
1 Tablespoon Unsalted Butter
Pinch Sea Salt
2 Teaspoons Honey
1-2 Teaspoon(s) Amaretto /Kahlua/ Pure Vanilla Extract
For Coating
2-3 Tablespoons (each) Shredded Coconut, Chopped Pistachios etc.

Process:

  1. In a small pan, melt the chocolate, heavy cream, butter and salt over low heat. Make sure to stir the mixture continuously. It took me approximately 7-8 minutes.
  2. Remove the pan from heat and stir in honey and amaretto/Kahlua or a mix of both.
  3. Spread the melted chocolate mixture in a flat pan, and refrigerate for approximately 35-40 minutes, until the mixture is slightly firm.
  4. Place your desired coatings into individual small bowls or on a plate.
  5. Using a teaspoon, scoop the chocolate mixture and form it into a ball using your hands.
  6. Roll the truffles into desired coating and place them on mini cupcake liners or on a parchment paper.
  7. Let the truffles set in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.

Enjoy! 🙂
